GR®R2 Île de la Réunion

Description

This guide brings together the three major trails on the island of Réunion. The GR R2 links La Providence (Saint-Denis) to Basse-Vallée near the Volcano over approximately 130 kilometres, crossing the cirques of Mafate and Cilaos : a full crossing that takes 10 to 14 days. The GR R1 circuits the Piton des Neiges over roughly 60 kilometres, passing through the three cirques of Salazie, Cilaos and Mafate. The GR R3 is the Tour du Cirque de Mafate, a 40-kilometre loop around the only cirque accessible exclusively on foot. All three routes are demanding, with steep ascents and very rugged terrain. The dry season from May to November is the recommended period. Mobile coverage is absent across most of the routes, the guide works offline.
